Thanks to Sal over at the indispensable Burning Wood, I stumbled across the following from Volume 1 of Motown Remixed. This 2005 release must have flown pretty far under the radar. I certainly had never heard of it.

Check out this re-imagining of Gladys Knight & The Pips version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine. The remix is credited to "The Randy Watson Experience", a two-man project consisting of Ahmir Thompson of The Roots and Grammy award-winning songwriter/ producer James Poyser (who sits in with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon). Thompson, IMHO, is the finest drummer on the planet. Give a listen to this and just wait for him to kick into high gear at about the 1:18 mark.  It gives me chills, I'm tellin' ya!
